that functions as a base
a sheet of matter one atom thick, composed of various atoms
is held above or on the base surface
multiple lasers move some of the atoms from the sheet to the base
then the sheet is moved slightly and the process is repeated
until the sheet is depleted and a new sheet is required
the result is that atoms are placed in a pattern as a layer on the base
and a new layer of atoms are placed in a pattern as a layer
on top of the previous layer
and the process is repeated
so that a product is 3d printed on an atomic scale
to form a computer chip
the sheet could be similar to graphene in structure
but could be composed of carbon atoms, silicon atoms and metal atoms
or whatever atoms that are appropriate
