heat is a problem in computing 

cpus and gpus become hot from working hard 

so cooling is needed for powerful computing

and as the matter becomes hot 

then the atoms move more 

and as the matter becomes hot 

then the atoms emit photons 

which is why hot matter glows 

but as atoms become hot 

and thereby emit photons 

then the cpu could use photons both to process data inside the cpu 

and communicate data inside the cpu and between the cpu, gpu, ram 

and other computer components 

this is probably a lot more practical 

on molecular transistors and on atomic transistors
