future of agriculture
problems with agriculture are:
pesticide inefficiency and pesticide pollution
access and cost of manual labour
protecting crop plants from weather
access to fertilizer and fertilizer pollution
pesticides could be made redundant through genetic engineering of crop plants and insects
manual labour could be replaced by automated farm machines
semitranslucent solar panels could protect crop plants from intense sunshine, heavy rain and strong wind
fertilizer could be made redundant by genetic engineering of plants
so that plants absorb nitrogen from the air
some soil bacteria contain genetic machinery to absorb nitrogen from air
genetic code from those bacteria would be inserted into crop plants
so that crop plants would produce their own genetic machinery to absorb nitrogen from air
then crop plants would not need fertilizer
air contains about 80 percent nitrogen
there are lots of bacteria in soil everywhere that absorbs nitrogen from air and that has never been a problem
which makes that genetic technology harmless
this could end hunger and poverty everywhere
and would enable colonization of every planet that has nitrogen in the atmosphere in other star systems
