mistakes can happen in conflicts and wars 

when a sniper fires a bullet from a long distance towards a target 

then different factors could lead to that the bullet misses its target 

and hits another individual 

that later official investigation concludes was an innocent civilian 

and when a bomber aircraft releases a bomb 

that falls towards a target building 

then the bomber aircraft could have received wrong intelligence 

so that the target individual isn't in the building 

and instead other individuals are in the building 

that later official investigation concludes were innocent civilians 

and when an ai that controls an explosive drone aircraft 

identifies a target individual 

and the ai flies the explosive drone towards the target individual 

and the drone explodes and kills the target individual 

but later official investigation concludes 

that the killed individual was an innocent civilian 

so whether mistakes are because of human soldiers 

or because of ai and autonomous weapons systems 

or because of official investigations 

the fact remains that using ai and autonomous weapons systems 

reduces the amount of human soldiers 

that are exposed to harm in conflicts and wars
