some video games offer a lot of possibilities 

for customizing the player character 

but it's usually constrained by being only a few species 

like humans, a few alien species and a few types of robots 

which probably works for many players 

but some players want more options 

and many games can be modded to offer more options 

but if the game offers the players the option 

to create their own alien species 

that can be played as a playable character 

and further customized with gear and so on 

then that could be more fun for the players 

especially if it's cooperative or competitive shooter games 

if some players mod their multiplayer fps games 

then those mods can only play with others with the same mods 

but if the game offers more customization in the game 

then players with very customized player characters 

will be able to play in any multiplayer fps match 

whether the multiplayer game client is modded or customized 

so that the playable character is significantly customized 

then that information needs to be sent to the other game clients 

that play the multiplayer game 

but that's probably a relatively small amount of information 

and shouldn't affect the startup time of the multiplayer game
