if more individuals learn a little dark arts 
then that could increase the survivability of the population 

everyone doesn't have to become experts in dark arts 
but as time passes 
and more and more individuals 
could learn more and more of dark arts 
then that could benefit themselves and the population 
and it could even benefit other populations 

but learning is not only acquiring new knowledge 
it's also accepting the knowledge you already have 

I get the impression 
that the subconsciousness of some individuals 
knows a little about dark arts 
but that the consciousness of those individuals 
doesn't want to accept that knowledge
