now that lilium aerospace has built a functioning vtol prototype that has taken off and landed vertically and flied forward 

it seems to work efficiently enough 

so I must say that clusters of small jet motors vtol are preferable to quad rotor vtol 

folding small jet motors are on top of the back of the wing 

if more lift is needed folding small jet motors could possibly be placed under the front of the wing
