could aquaponics be used so that the saltwater crops absorb all the water from saltwater so that only salt is left and the removed and replaced with new saltwater 

the saltwater crops would be the filter absorbing the water from a pool of saltwater and if weather/climate requires it, then inside a greenhouse
that system would not produce freshwater, but it would produce food crops or fuel crops or compost crops 

saltwater aquaponics means crops growing in saltwater instead of earth
